Tips for Refrigerators
Modern refrigeration is considered one of the most important inventions in the history of mankind. The ability to store food and keep it fresh for long periods of time changed the way people lived. The refrigerator is a crucial element in our lives, though we don’t give it a second thought, until it breaks down.
When you need refrigerator repair, call San Diego Appliance Repair.   When your refrigerator stops working, the clock is ticking. You need help and you need it right away because there is only a small window of time before the ice cream starts to melt and the ground beef goes bad.
We know the seriousness of the situation. We know the incredible inconvenience it can cause you. But one call to San Diego Appliance Repair and help is on the way. Our highly trained technicians can handle any problem that arises. They are certified experts in repairing all major brands including Amana, Maytag, Whirlpool, LG, Dacor, Samsung, Bosch, GE, GE Monogram, GE Profile, Honeywell, Thermador, Miele, and others.
When disaster hits, you might think that your refrigerator needs to be replaced. But that will take even more time, not to mention the expense of buying a new unit and the cost of all the food you will have to throw out. Chances are your refrigerator doesn’t need to be replaced, but can be repaired quickly and dependably by our technicians. Your refrigerator will be operating at peak efficiency in no time. That’s just one more reason that we are the company to call when you need refrigerator repair.
Of course, in an ideal world, your refrigerator would never break down. We can help with that too. You don’t need the inconvenience of coming home from work to find frozen food melted and leaking out of your fridge and all over your floor. That is easily avoided with some regular maintenance. We can provide regular maintenance to keep your refrigerator working well for years to come.
Here are five tips for making sure your refrigerator stays in top condition:
Tip 1 – Clean the Coils
When your refrigerator’s coils are dusty and dirty, the motor has to work harder, and that means higher energy bills and a lower life expectancy for one of the most expensive appliances in your kitchen. To keep this from happening, use a broom or vacuum cleaner to remove the dust build up from the coils every three months or so.
Tip 2 – Keep Things on the Level
Keep your refrigerator on the level that is. It seems like a small thing, but it helps the doors fit correctly. If it’s not level, the doors might not seal as tightly. Once again, you’re losing energy and cold, so the unit has to work harder. You can check your fridge by putting a carpenter’s level on top of the unit. Then just adjust the casters, either by hand or with a wrench until the bubble is in the right place. Or, make your life even easier and have one of our certified technicians do it for you.
Tip 3 – Feel for Cold Spots
Just like you’d feel someone’s forehead to see if they are running hot, feel the outside of your refrigerator to see if there are any cold spots. A cold spot means that either the insulation has shifted or is possibly waterlogged. If that’s the case, it needs to be adjusted or replaced.
Tip 4 – Check the Gaskets
The gaskets on the doors of your refrigerator are designed to seal cool air in and keep warm air out. If they’re not sealing properly, you’ve got a problem. Inspect the gaskets visually for cracks or damage. Take a piece of paper and shut the door on it. If you can pull it out easily, your seal isn’t what it should be. San Diego Appliance Repair technicians can test the gaskets for you and replace them if necessary
Tip 5 – Get Rid of Ice Build-up
Though most units have automatic defrosters, if the freezer section of your refrigerator doesn’t, you need to check the evaporator for frost build-up. Any time ice build-up exceeds ¼ inch you need to defrost.
