You can help too.  All it requires is paying a little bit of attention to your appliances.  Here are a few examples for just some of the appliances found in most homes:

Dishwasher

Clean the Filter. Many dishwashers have a filter usually located under the lower spray arm or near the bottom that needs to be cleaned.  Check your owner’s manual for instructions on how to take it out and clean it.  If it has holes in it, get a replacement filter to protect the pump from particles that might be circulating in the dishwasher.

Clean the Spray Arm. The tiny holes in the spray arm of your dishwasher can get clogged with bits of paper, food, etc.  If you take the time to check the spray arms and clean out any holes that appear clogged, your dishwasher will do a much better job of washing the dishes. If you still need dishwasher repair after performing the above steps, give us a call.

Garbage Disposal

Use Cold Water. Cold water solidifies any grease that gets into the unit, so it will be chopped up before reaching the trap.

Keep the Blades Sharp. About once a month or so, fill the unit with ice cubes and turn it on.  When the ice cubes have been chopped up, run the unit with hot water to help clean it out.

Keep It Smelling Good. Use your unit often and with a lot of water to keep it from smelling bad.  If it already has an odor, pour 3-4 cups of lemon juice into it and let it sit.  After 5 to 10 minutes, turn on the unit while running lots of water.

Air Conditioner

Clean or replace the filter every month. Most air conditioners have a simple electrostatic filter on the front of the grill to filter the air that passes through.  Clean it or replace it once a month during the cooling season and you’ll be happily surprised how much better and more efficient your unit works.

Clean condenser coils at least once a year. The dirt tends to accumulate on the inside of the coils, so you have to remove the entire cover to gain access.  You can clean them by blowing compressed air at them, or using a soft-bristle brush. If you still need air conditioning repair, give us a call to schedule an appointment with a air conditioning repair technician.

Of course, most of us don’t have the time or inclination to spend our leisure time inspecting, cleaning and maintaining our appliances.  That’s why it’s good to know San Diego Appliance Repair.  We’re thinking about your appliances so you don’t have to.
